My laziness gets me in trouble

Fire in a fireplaceIn my last pillar, I pointed to Wired’s division on heating vs cooling as a single good point in the lackluster succession. I did admit that they didn’t give much in the way of detail, but figured that was lawful a result of the extent limitations.

Well, I should have been less inactive and taken a closer gaze. The online translation of the article includes links to their sources and it turns out that Wired is comparing a one-extent AC unit in Phoenix against a whole-house furnace in New England. No surprise the New Englander fares so in want!

I can see why they did that, though. It’s a lot harder to estimate relatively actual verse than to fil out a state in an online calculator (that doesn’t make plain how it arrives at its song). By one's self from the difference in magnitude, it also seems odd to me that they chose material for burning oil, since most homes (that aren’t heated by electricity) are heated by of nature gas.

With those criticisms in soul, I ran my own numbers, often using the same sources as the Wired point. Here’s what I turned up.

The Wired head says that the New Englander produces 13,000 lbs of CO2 in a period of the year. Based on their rise for pollution figures, that comes out to 80.55 a thousand thousand BTUs for the period of the year. If they used of nature gas instead of firing oil, it’s only 115 lbs of CO2 (rather than 161 lbs) per a thousand thousand BTU, meaning that a domicile using of nature gas instead produces only 9290 lbs of CO2 a period of the year.
