the rituals of summer

the cicadas are already sonorous their trademark call. it is reasonable 9:00 a.m. and i have turned on the evaporative cooler for the day.

i smack the small steps i take each year as we draw nigh our climatic apogee, always leaving something in lay up for the hottest days and nights. first, i'll turn round the cooler on during the day. i also allowance the back door make open so the dogs can be of advantage to themselves of the tile floor in the kitchen while i am out. at nights i have a brace of little vornado-stamp fans: one for my field, and one for the kitchen. i slumber with the lightest of blankets--rightful to be able to transport it later in the period of the year.

next step, in a week or so, i'll add running the fan part of the cooler all darkness. the floor fan will be temporarily abstracted. the blanket will advance off the bed.

in the very peak of monsoon (chubasco) dampness and insanely hot nights, i'll have the cooler going 24/7, and the floor fan aimed rectilinear at my bed at night, where i will throw up and turn on a exudation-soaked sheet, hard to get a night's ease.

but all of this is just legitimate Sonoran uninhabited living. i gaze around the country, around the nature, and feel beatified that we are just action with our usual seasonal events, and not tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, etc.

the monsoon always holds the potentiality of extremes though. we have a repute as being one of the lightning capitals of the land, and lots of rain can always medium flooding, especially here where the earth is so dry that water can't veritably penetrate. the unanticipated violence of the storms here is humbling. we will discern it soon enough.

this is my 6th "fatherless" year. i in conclusion believe i have put Marshall's the breath of one's nostrils and death into view within the scope of my own the breath of one's nostrils (and impending end of life). this year i find myself cogitative less of my father and more of the men who have fathered my son.
